A day in your life as an Accounts Payable Supervisor
Under the direction of the Disbursements Manager, the Accounts Payable Supervisor monitors and reviews the daily functions of the Accounts Payable staff and provides follow-up on inquiries and escalated support to business units across the bank. Assists with the business unit’s compliance with applicable laws, regulations, regulatory requirements and Bank policies and procedures, including but not limited to those related to Fair Banking, Anti-Money Laundering laws and regulations, Bank Secrecy Act and USA PATRIOT Act.   
 
We’ll give you the following important responsibilities…
  • Leads, directs and supervises the daily activities of the staff who receive and process payments for invoices/expense reports, research payment inquiries, process general ledger entries, disburse payments and produce audit related support and reports. Maintains a current working knowledge of the functions within the department and may serve as backup in performance of these functions in the case of absences or vacancies.  Exercises signing authority as required within the unit.
  • Responsible to ensure daily work completed by section is timely and accurate, ensuring compliance to procedures, work priorities and schedules.  Reviews, monitors and evaluates work to ensure that daily/monthly deadlines and service level expectations are met.
  • Responsible for the management of all employees in the team including staffing and scheduling, compensation, performance management, goal setting, training and development.   Goal is to attract, retain and motivate the team to achieve management business objectives and maintain a favorable employee relations climate.  Responsible for the timely and effective management of Human Resources forms and documents relevant to immediate staff.
  • Effectively communicates verbally and in writing with peers, other department personnel, partners and vendors. Receives, prioritizes, delegates or researches, resolves and responds to inquiries from internal and external sources.
  • Assists Disbursements Manager in the identification and implementation of process improvements and completion of special projects as assigned. Integral in the design, implementation and management of efficient workflows and the systems necessary to execute to plan.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of accounts payable/receivable or equivalent work experience including 2 years supervisory experience in accounting or equivalent work experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency and expertise with personal computers and Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint) or similar software. 
  • Knowledge of or ability to use Bank software and systems.
  • Ability to speak and write clearly and concisely. 
  • Must have good problem solving skills and be able to quickly develop solutions that consider efficiency, internal controls, and impact to financial results. 
  • Requires the ability to exercise sound judgment. 
  • Also requires a good working knowledge of accounting principles and practices, as well as a firm understanding of general ledger processing, and other relevant matters.
  • Must also possess a positive customer service attitude in dealing with internal and external customers. 
  • Able to foster teamwork in a team based work environment. 
  • Must be able to work evenings, weekends and holidays as assigned. 
  • Able to lift files up to 30 lbs and occasionally use a step stool, bend and stretch for filing and retrieving folders.
