A day in your life as a Financial Planning Analyst

Under the direction of the Manager, this position is responsible for supporting the financial planner by managing data entry and integrity, analyzing client data and coordinating services with business units and partners. This position works closely with manager to identify and propose changes to help drive department, division and overall company efficiency.  If applicable or appropriate, assists in business unit’s compliance with applicable laws, regulations, regulatory requirements and Bank policies and procedures, including but not limited to those related to Fair Banking, Anti-Money Laundering laws and regulations, Bank Secrecy Act and USA PATRIOT Act.

Data Analysis and Input:

  • Supports the financial planner by reviewing and analyzing client financial information and statements; and inputting best information and data into financial planning software.
  • Works with manager and partners to identify and collect additional information needed from clients.
  • Follows risk management guidelines and procedures.
  • Increases and maintains knowledge of assigned products and services supported.
  • Increases knowledge and understanding of related tax, compliance, and business considerations.


Business Partnership:

  • Maintains a positive business relationship with business units and partners.
  • Works with business units and partners to understand their needs.
  • Proactively communicates project status and schedules.
  • Assists Institutional Services on special projects and with other duties as necessary.


Systems Analysis: 

  • Provides systems and/or process analysis and design to meet functional and organizational requirements.
  • Studies methods of improving work measurements or performance standards.
  • Incorporates Bank of Hawaii information security policies and procedures into all system designs.



  • Works with peers and manager to address concerns and resolve issues.
  • Responsible for his/her own learning; takes the initiative to become educated and knowledgeable on topics that pertain to the job.
  • Participates in internal and external development opportunities leading to career as financial planner.
  • Participates in the evaluation and implementation of new technology.


Vendor Management:

  • Assists in managing vendor to deliver agreed-upon service levels and delivery commitments related to systems performance.
  • Addresses issues with vendor performance on production and project delivery; escalates where necessary.
  • Works with vendor to identify opportunities for innovation, cost reduction, and improved functionality and efficiencies with provided solutions.
  • Works with vendor on any system updates and/or improvements.


Performs other job related duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with major in accounting, finance or related area or equivalent work related experience. 
  • CFP preferred for Level I and required for Level II.



  • Minimum 5 years of related work experience, financial planning, estate planning preferred or equivalent work experience. 
  • Requires experience interpreting financial data and ability to read and interpret various kinds of financial statements.
  • Banking/financial industry or related field experience preferred.


Technical Skills: 

  • Demonstrated proficiency and expertise with personal computers in a networked environment and Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint) or similar software. 
  • Knowledge of or ability to use Bank software and systems including MoneyGuidePro or other financial planning software.


Other Job Qualifications: 

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including interpersonal skills. 
  • Must be analytical, organized with excellent problem solving skills.
  • Must have a collaborative work style with the ability to work in a team environment. 
  • Should be an independent worker who drives assigned tasks through to completion.
  • Must be detail oriented with the ability to meet competing deadlines.
  • Able to work flexible hours including holidays, weekends and evenings as needed or assigned.
