A day in your life as a Trust Income Tax Manager
Under the direction of the SVP and Personal Trust Manager, is responsible for the overall administration, management, and administration of the Trust Tax Department. Ensures business units compliance with applicable laws, regulations, regulatory requirements and Bank policies and procedures, including but not limited to those related to Fair Banking, Anti-Money Laundering laws and regulations, Bank Secrecy Act and USA PATRIOT Act. In addition, this position is responsible for demonstrating the Excellence in Sales/Service (ESS) philosophy by participating in and practicing ESS disciplines and behaviors.

Responsible for the management of all employees in the department including staffing, compensation, performance management, training and development, succession planning and affirmative action. Goal is to attract, retain and motivate the team to achieve management business objectives and maintain a favorable employee relations climate. Responsible for the timely and effective management of Human Resources forms and documents relevant to immediate staff.
Motivates staff to perform to their potential; counsel staff with performance issues; coordinate allocation of human resources within Tax Department with other Senior Tax Supervisor/Officers. Provides training to the staff on tax issues. Supports the development needs of staff to ensure adequate training is provided. Provide timely feedback on performance and communicates needs and deficiencies to the department manager.
Develops and executes plan which provides for the delivery of tax compliance and consulting services of the highest quality for all accounts in assigned area of responsibility in a timely, accurate and efficient manner. Develops innovative solutions for complicated, specialized or new tax issues while utilizing sound business judgment. Ensures that all returns are timely filed. Determines and implements processes that promote an efficient office.
Oversees the direction, management and supervision of Trust Tax department ensuring optimal departmental performance in meeting the business objectives as well as maintaining controls and regulatory, compliance and audit standards. Includes oversight of the department budget, reconciliation of accounts, audit oversight, and risk control.
Sets and achieves profitability goals consistent with the Tax Departments financial goals. Manages error and omission expense within established Tax Department guidelines.
Demonstrates and effectively communicates in-depth technical expertise and serves as a resource for Trust Services Group (TSG) and the Bank as a whole; utilizes expertise to create tax planning opportunities; enhances professional knowledge and in-depth expertise through self development activities.
Identifies and implements opportunities to enhance performance, efficiency and management through technology (i.e. OneSource and CCH).
Monitor IRS and other tax authority issues to ensure that they are properly resolved in a timely manner.
Expands network of contacts in the business community and actively pursues new business opportunities utilizing appropriate resources.


if you come to us with these qualifications
Bachelors degree from an accredited educational institution with major in accounting
Must be a CPA or Enrolled Agent with equivalent work experience.
Minimum 10 - 12 years of relevant work experience in taxation and tax planning with minimum 5 years of supervisory/management experience
Public accounting firm experience preferred
Strong knowledge and experience with income tax provisions pertaining to individuals, family groups, complex gifts, property exchange, high net worth individuals, partnerships, S-corporation, limited liability corporations, corporations, professional corporations, personal trusts, charitable trusts, private foundations, estates, fiduciaries, etc
Requires in depth technical tax expertise.
Demonstrated proficiency and expertise with personal computers in a networked environment and Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint) or similar software
Knowledge of or ability to use Bank software and systems
Requires relational database knowledge, strong spreadsheet proficiency and analytical skill-set
Excellent communication skills, including verbal, written and interpersonal
Must have good organizational skills and presentation skills
Must be a team player, detail oriented and possess strong managerial and client service skills, as well as project management skills
Strong research skills required
Must be able to work flexible hours to include evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary
