A day in your life as an IT Solutions Architect

 

Under the direct leadership of executive management, this position is responsible for assisting in the establishment of an IT Architecture practice, and the adoption of an architecture and standards methodology. The Solution Architect will manage activities that take place during solution ideation, solution design, and solution implementation.  Responsibilities include the review of business context for solutions to banking challenges as well as defining the vision and requirements for the solution, recommending potential options, (which may include RFIs, RFPs or prototype development), selecting the most optimal option, and the development of a roadmap for the selected solution. The Solution Architect communicates the architecture to the stakeholders, and collaborates and coordinates with existing domain architects in the formalization and adoption of IT standards and procedures.  Keys to success for this position are the integration of banking business solutions into a centrally administered network environment in order to meet the growing and complex needs of the Bank.  This position is accountable to the Bank policies and procedures, including but not limited to those related to Fair Banking, Anti-Money Laundering laws and regulations, Bank Secrecy Act and USA PATRIOT Act.

  • Champions a structured approach to business application solutions. Directly assists in the development of a solutions architecture program including departmental roadmaps and project portfolios for IT systems architecture.
  • Assures solutions not only are fit for purpose but closely align with the standards guidelines of technology solutions. Influences change to standards when necessary. 

  • Assists domain architecture team on solutions management and timing of financial spend for application solutions. Supports the architectural aspects of all application projects in peer IT portfolios.  Communicates with other managers to learn about implications of other projects and scope of involvement.  Keeps architectural solution review process involved with all projects.

  • Supports the identification and recommendation of appropriate solutions, upgrades, replacements and/or decommissioning options incorporating business and technology productivity, usability, and total cost of ownership. Develops and executes solutions which further reduce the percentage of time spent on reactive work. Maintain awareness of cost impact of actions.

  • Provides analysis of security protection technologies as necessary.

  • Provides timely response to external and internal audit requests for assistance.

  • Serves as escalation path for relative Problem Management. Reports and/or escalates any incidents or events in violation of compliance or which could adversely impact the integrity of BoH operations or reputation.

  • Positively contributes to team, department and organizational morale and environment Collaborate effectively with supporting departments and teams.

 


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Computer Science, Information Systems or equivalent education or work experience
  • Minimum of 10 - 12 years of experience related to IT Management or other information technology solutions architecture role which demonstrates the ability to communicate the complexities of technical programs
  • Banking/financial industry or related field preferred
  • Demonstrated proficiency and expertise with information technologies in a secure banking network environment
  • Demonstrated proficiency and expertise with personal computers in a secure banking network environment and Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and SharePoint) or similar software
  • Knowledge of or ability to use Bank software and systems
  • Excellent oral and written communication, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Must have high attention to detail with regard to accounting skills, be able to work under indirect supervision, and an above average broad understanding of information technology topi
  • Requires effective interpersonal skills and collaborative management style to include teamwork and team building ability
  • Must also have effective conflict management, negotiating and problem solving skills
  • Should be comfortable with ambiguity and time spent outside of comfort zone acquiring new skills
  • Able to be flexible in a fast paced dynamic environment with shifting roles and responsibilities 
  • Must be technically creative and open-minded
  • Able to work flexible hours including holidays, weekends and evenings as needed or assigned
