A day in your life as a Private Banking Senior Lending Officer:
Under the direction of the Manager, Klai Services (Klai), this position provides the credit approval/review function for commercial and retail credits originated by or domiciled in The Private Bank.  Responsible for providing guidance to the Relationship Managers (RM) in their credit based business development efforts.  Performs analyses of complex credits and supports the structuring of sound credit facilities and maintains communications with credit related partners. Reviews, approves and/or evaluates the soundness of credit requests. In addition, this position is responsible for portfolio management, oversight of compliance and credit - based procedures and the coaching of RMs/credit support officers. This position directly manages a team of credit support officers for The Private Bank proprietary lending facilities and more complex mortgage and home equity credits.  In coordination with The Private Bank managers and other business units, develops and manages cross-unit lending workflows, lending product design, underwriting criteria and portfolio monitoring.  Develops lending budgets/forecasts.  Assists in business units compliance with applicable laws, regulations, regulatory requirements and Bank policies and procedures, including but not limited to those related to Fair Banking, Anti-Money Laundering laws and regulations, Bank Secrecy Act and USA PATRIOT Act.

Well give you these important responsibilities
  • Delivers excellence in portfolio management.  Makes credit decisions within assigned lending authority.  Ensures that risk ratings are accurate and changed on a timely basis.  Provides direction, tools and technology to enhance proactive credit administration/follow-up and portfolio management oversight in early recognition of changes in risk profile, borrower and industry concentrations, and economic/business environment. 
  • Partners and/or collaborates effectively with RMs in achievement of Line of Business objectives including participation in staff meetings, review of client relationship strategies and joint calls with RMs.  Serves as leader or team member on projects affecting all lending staff.  Performs credit analyses and cash flow projection models on more complex credits as needed.  Develops and maintains proprietary products for PB markets.  Works with RMs and other Bank lending units to structure appropriate and sound credit facilities and promotes excellence in evaluation and communication of credit risk in accordance with Bank and Departments guidelines.  Delivers professional on-going coaching and mentoring of RMs/credit support officers to improve skill sets.
  • Provides leadership as a change agent to assist in implementing the Credit Culture vision for the Bank.  Works with The Private Bank management and other lending units to continually improve and refine workflows, pipeline management, lending products and services, underwriting criteria, portfolio management and cross-bank communications.   Enforces compliance with regulatory requirements and credit policies/procedures including identification, and appropriate approval of exceptions.  Facilitates effective communication between Wholesale/Retail Credit and the RMs. Provides ad hoc and periodic reporting to retail/wholesale credit and management reporting.
  • Responsible for the management of all employees in the team including staffing and scheduling, compensation, performance management, training and development.   Goal is to attract, retain and motivate the team to achieve management business objectives and maintain a favorable employee relations climate.  Responsible for the timely and effective management of Human Resources forms and documents relevant to immediate staff.

REGISTRATION REQUIREMENT:  Registration with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System & Registry.  If not yet registered, registration to be completed and accepted no later than 30 days from employment or transfer date.  If not registered and accepted, employment may be terminated.


  • Bachelors degree from an accredited institution with major in business, economics or related area, or equivalent business experience.
  • Minimum 7 years of commercial or private banking credit experience including experience as a relationship officer or equivalent work experience.  
  • Advanced analytical skills, understanding of consumer and commercial credit, cash flow analysis, lending, loan administration and proficiency with credit software.  
  • Requires understanding of complex structuring, as well as and knowledge and understanding of federal and state laws affecting the extension of credits.  
  • Also requires at least four years of management experience.
Technical Skills:  
  • Demonstrated proficiency and advanced expertise with personal computers and Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint) or similar software. 
  • Requires excellent worksheet and database skills.  
  • Knowledge of or ability to use Bank software and systems.
Other Job Qualifications:  
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills including presentation skills.  
  • Able to demonstrate strong analytical and quantitative skills, with excellent attention to detail.  
  • Must be able to meet deadlines and handle multiple priorities.  
  • Must possess a good working knowledge of accounting practices as well as an understanding of the federal and state laws that affect the extension of credits.  
  • Possesses good interpersonal skills and client servicing skills to meet the Banks standards.   
  • Must always follow up and follow through. 
  • Able to work flexible hours including weekends, evenings as needed or assigned. 
  • Must be able to provide own transportation or to operate a vehicle with a valid drivers license and commute as required. 
  • Able to travel by air as required.
