A day in the life of a Processes & Data Governance Manager

Under the direction of the Manager, this position is responsible for supporting a reliable enterprise wide framework and governance that provides quality information/data that is available and utilized by the entire organization.  This position is responsible for identifying information, data and processes which impact all of our customer segments and addressing the ways we optimize and enhance the experience of our customers and employees. In addition, this position ensures business unit’s adherence to and compliance with regulatory requirements, as well as Bank policies and procedures, related to Fair Banking, Anti-Money Laundering, Bank Secrecy Act and USA PATRIOT Act.  In addition, this position is responsible for demonstrating the Excellence in Sales/Service (ESS) philosophy by participating in and practicing ESS disciplines and behaviors.


We’ll give you these important responsibilities…

  • Leads and manages assigned project team(s) which document the end-to-end processes including those which are technical, data governance, operational and process improvement in nature.  Initiates efforts, analyzes, identifies and recommends areas for process improvement.  Coordinates delivery efforts with product management, operations, marketing, compliance, audit and other areas of the bank. Provides leadership, direction and a motivational environment for the team.  Performs resource and workload planning.  Collaborates with management to ensure projects align with the overall strategy of the enterprise.  Maintains knowledge of current laws and regulations directly affecting business units to ensure more appropriate governance. 
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of the data governance strategy and framework, as well as training and the update of   educational materials.  Develops and maintains data governance communication processes and tools.  Liaises with appropriate participants on data governance cases, follows up, resolves, and closes cases with guidance as needed from the data governance lead.  Organizes, facilitates, documents meetings for data governance activities while developing and maintaining tools to manage information (e.g. Intranet site; a metadata repository, etc.).  Provides reporting on data governance activities.  Assists in the development, communication, implementation and periodic review of data standards and polices.  Monitors significant projects and activities to ensure they are aligned with data governance (i.e. in terms of Legal, Privacy, Compliance, corporate data management objectives, data policies, data standards, etc.)
  • Develops, maintains and monitors the project plan(s), working with external vendors as needed.  Ensures the plan is executable and will meet desired objectives and standards.  Reviews document of understanding to ensure detailed understanding of user requirements and project deliverables by the appropriate participants.
  • Manages efforts of various implementation teams assigned to the project(s).  Accountable for the timely completion of all team tasks (technical and operational). Accountable for compiling the user requirements, user testing, implementation, process re-engineering, user documentation/procedures, and identifies issues, formulates recommendations, escalates as necessary and resolves.  Recommends changes to policies and procedures.  Coordinates efforts to ensure procedures that cross interdepartmental functionality are efficient.
  • Responsible for the management of all employees in the team including staffing and scheduling, compensation, performance management, training and development.   Goal is to attract, retain and motivate the team to achieve management business objectives and maintain a favorable employee relations climate.  Responsible for the timely and effective management of Human Resources forms and documents relevant to immediate staff.
  • Performs all other miscellaneous responsibilities and duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor’s Degree with major in business or related subject or equivalent work experience.



  • Minimum 7 - 10 years of work experience in positions of increasing responsibility with significant process/project management responsibilities. 
  • Including or in addition, requires 5 - 7 years sales/service experience with financial products and services, in banking/financial services industry.
  • Retail banking, commercial banking and/or their operations preferred. 
  • Minimum 3 years of significant division or enterprise wide project management team leadership required.   
  • Project management experience with IT component, vendor management and multi-media communication experience also required. 
  • Requires 3 - 5 years of team leadership/supervisory/management experience.


Technical Skills: 

  • Demonstrated proficiency and advanced expertise with personal computers in a networked environment and Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and Power Point) or similar software. 
  • Knowledge of or ability to use Bank software and systems.

  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Must be analytical, detail oriented, organized. 
  • Able to work with all levels of management. 
  • Must be able to meet demanding deadlines and handle multiple priorities. 
  • Effective and efficient team player with excellent interpersonal skills, who can also resolve problems independently.
  • Able to take direction but can work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Should be able to analyze complex situations quickly and identify solutions and alternatives.
  • Must be flexible, able to work on multiple projects that may require restructuring due to shifting demands, unforeseen events and changing priorities.
  • Able to work with internal and external stakeholders of varying levels. 
  • Must be people-oriented with commitment to delivering high customer satisfaction and quality results. 
  • Able to work flexible hours including holidays, weekends and evenings as needed.
  • Must be able to provide own transportation or to operate a vehicle with a valid driver’s license, and able to commute and arrive at intended destination as required.
