A day in your life as a Recovery Specialist
Under the direction of the Manager and/or Supervisor, this position administers assigned consumer, overdraft and non-loan charge off files to maximize recovery and minimize expenses, identifies and reduces exposure to counterclaims, evaluates and disposes of collateral and processes files for final write off where no further source of recovery exists.  Assists in business units compliance with applicable laws, regulations, regulatory requirements and Bank policies and procedures, including but not limited to those related to Fair Banking, Anti-Money Laundering laws and regulations, Bank Secrecy Act and USA PATRIOT Act.

  • Researches possible solutions and processes to support the achievement of assigned recovery goals.  Assists with implementing initiatives to increase pressure for repayment as appropriate.  Negotiates repayment schedules or settlements within policy, assign files for legal action or collection agency placement.  Monitors progress on assigned files to ensure cost-effective results.  Works directly with debtors or other professionals by telephone, written correspondence or in person.  Recommends or, within established limits, approves files for final write off once all sources of recovery has been exhausted.
  • Prepares and dispatches standard and complex letters to obligors, attorney firms, collection agencies or other professionals.    Assists in the provision of data for IRS audits, prepares files for IRS reporting, and assists with system upgrades and other assigned projects.  Conducts research using information from internal Bank systems, government agencies, Internet sites, credit bureau reports, financial information and other resources to locate obligors and determine repayment sources.
  • Participates in attorney and collection agency forums, sets up and conducts internal training sessions for Recovery staff and facilitates Bank training for assigned topics such as bankruptcy, Fair Debt
  • Collection Practices Act, Fair Lending Act, etc.
  • Performs all other miscellaneous responsibilities and duties as assigned.

This position requires use of a personal computer and other standard office equipment (typewriter, fax, copier, calculator and telephone).


if you come to us with these qualifications 

  • Education:   High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience: Level I:  Minimum 1 - 2 years in positions of increasing responsibility in Collections or recovery or related banking areas.
  • Technical Skills:  Demonstrated proficiency with personal computers in a networked environment and Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint) or similar software.    Able to create and use financial models.
  • Other Job Qualifications:  Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.  Must be analytical, detail oriented, organized.  Able to meet deadlines and handle multiple priorities. Demonstrated negotiation skills. Able to analyze financial statements.  Effective and efficient team player with excellent interpersonal skills, who can also resolve problems independently.  Able to work with minimal supervision and assist with training of other staff members. Able to work flexible hours including holidays, weekends and evenings as needed or assigned.  Must be able to provide own transportation or to operate a vehicle with a valid drivers license, and able to commute and arrive at intended destination in a timely manner and/or as required.
