A day in your life as a Strategic Business Partner
Under the direction of the Manager, the  Strategic Business Partner (SBP) supports the alignment of the bank and People Services strategies to the business, develops talent strategies, provides thought leadership and consultation on building organizational and leadership capability and designs solutions for greater organizational effectiveness.  Assists in business units compliance with applicable laws, regulations, regulatory requirements and Bank policies and procedures, including but not limited to those related to Fair Banking, Anti-Money Laundering laws and regulations, Bank Secrecy Act and USA PATRIOT Act.

  • Partners with the business unit to assess organizational needs. Designs and develops customized organizational and leadership development solutions that align with business strategies and furthers organizational goals/initiatives.  Provides coaching regarding work processes and team structures with a view to improve the businesss overall effectiveness.  Must have the ability to effectively envision, develop, and implement new strategies that address complex business issues in a strategic capacity.  Builds communication and organizational change plans to ensure solutions are effectively executed.  Assists with room arrangements and set-up for communication and leadership events and meetings.
  • Supports People Services and People Strategy initiatives utilizing an integrated Talent Management strategy; including but not limited to talent strategy and planning, talent acquisition & optimization, and alignment and engagement.  Provides guidance and input on workforce planning, business unit restructures and succession planning ensuring that core People Services processes are applied appropriately and in a legally compliant manner. Oversees, manages and coaches managers on complex employee relations issues and supports efforts of Workplace Excellence team.  Focuses on the employee experience, change strategies and career development programs. Identifies and develops opportunities to increase strategy effectiveness.  Oversees and measures effectiveness of organizational, leadership, and change management programs and initiatives. 
  • Partners with other People Services departmental teams in determining approaches to matters of recruitment, compensation, development and other functions in order to ensure that the programs in place are effective and efficient. Supports learning and development efforts of Talent Development department, provides guidance and coaching in instructional design and program development. Leads corporate-wide organizational, leadership and learning initiatives.
  • Assists manager with strategic planning and design/development of solutions for corporate-wide initiatives. Provides guidance and consultation on organizational development programs and processes.  Performs job, task, and/or content analysis and facilitates focus groups and interviews. Provides coaching and consulting to leaders and teams to assist with organizational challenges.  Develops and enhances procedures and processes.
  • Performs all other miscellaneous responsibilities and duties as assigned.

This position requires use of a personal computer and other standard office equipment (fax, copier, calculator, telephone). 


Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Psychology, or any related field of study or equivalent work experience.   Advanced degree and Professional certifications a plus (e.g., SPHR, CPLP, Change Management).
  • Experience:
    • I:Minimum of 5 - 7 years of related HR Business Partner, Generalist, Organizational Development and/or Training or equivalent work experience.  Should include 1 3 years team leadership/supervisory or equivalent work experience.
    • II:Minimum of 7 - 10 years of related HR Business Partner, Generalist, Organizational Development and/or Training or equivalent work experience.  Requires 3 5 years of team leadership/supervisory/management or equivalent work experience.  Also requires significant project management experience with major role.
    • III:Minimum of 8 11 years of related HR Business Partner, Generalist, Organizational Development and/or Training or equivalent work experience.  Requires 3 5 years of supervisory/management or equivalent work experience. Also requires lead project management role in multiple significant projects.
    • Sr:Minimum 9 - 12 years of related HR Business Partner, Generalist, Organizational Development and/or Training or equivalent work experience.  Requires 4 6 years of supervisory/management or equivalent work experience. Also requires lead roles in corporate, multiple division or large division projects.
  • Technical Skills: Demonstrated proficiency and expertise with personal computers and Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and Power Point) or similar software.  Knowledge of or ability to use Bank software.
  • Other Job Qualifications: Possesses a global/organizational perspective with strong decision making, strategic and critical thinking skills. Able to quickly garner trust and respect of business unit leaders and management.  Builds and maintains strong working partnerships and enhances relationships with a collaborative and consultative approach. Demonstrates a strong understanding and experience working with multiple human resource disciplines (employee relations, compensation practices, organizational diagnosis, performance management, staffing, and state employment laws.) The candidates familiarity with state employment laws and HR best practices is a necessity for key areas, for example, in the areas of recruitment, remuneration and benefits, and training and development. Additionally, a suitable candidate will also have proven and successful experience executing organizational change programs.  Ability to multitask and manage multiple complex projects/processes.  Possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills. Able to prepare and deliver presentations for all levels of employee. Self-starter who requires minimal supervision and with the ability to work across multiple departments and divisions.  Possesses leadership skills, program design and development, facilitation and presentation skills; course development skills; customer negotiation/needs assessment skills; problem solving and decision making skills. Possesses strong analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to identify business and process improvement opportunities and implement change.  Must be able to provide own transportation or to operate a vehicle with a valid drivers license and commute as required. Able to travel by air as necessary.    Must be able to lift/move up to 25 pounds.  Able to work flexible hours including holidays, weekends and evenings as needed or assigned.
